Dressing up for dinner is almost an oxymoron—why would anyone dress up to sit, bottom half of their body covered by a table, to deal with messy food? Yet people do it, determined to make a classy entrance before all the feasting begins. If you're one of those people, but refuse to suffer and confine yourself to a stylish outfit that will betray you after the appetizers, read on.
Wear a baby doll dress: A stylish, short dress that hangs far away from the growing food baby in your belly is a simple solution for the dining fashionista. Just don't ruin it with tights—go barefoot, and pair with feminine pumps. If you live in a place where Thanksgiving is snowy (we sympathize) try knee-highs.
Try a poncho or a cape: A huge, comforting tent of fabric to hide anything and everything? Yes, please! Ponchos are incredibly hot this season, but please be careful—you don't want fringe or tassels in your mashed potatoes. Go for a tassel-free version, with short sleeves, and combine with stretchy pants. No one will ever know.
Go for a bold pattern: No matter what you do, chances are you'll spill something, sooner or later. If the unfortunate incident does happen, you'll be grateful for this tip—a stain drowned in a sea of print will not ruin your mood or your outfit.
And stay away from: White clothes—for your own peace of mind. Avoid jumpsuits—come desserts, you'll wish you never made this miserable decision. Say no to tight-fitting skirts, jeans and pants, and to boots—two hours indoors will challenge you. The more room and freedom you give yourself this holiday, the more food you can consume guilt-free. Your grandma will thank us.
